DINING WITH THE DOCTOR

Dining With The Doctor: The Unauthorized Whovian Cookbook

Nerdist Review

ALLONS-Y! Let’s take a look! There are a TON of excellent ideas, recipes and adult beverages to invoke the awe of any self respecting Doctor Who fan at your next party. Recipes are chronological by season and episode, so you could cook along, eat some delicious food, and catch up all at the same time. And you should, because Oseland spent a lot of time on this, which is evident in the fun commentary and easy-to-follow instructions that must have been cooked by lots of testers to make it juuuust right…

Den of Geek Review

One of the things we love most about this cookbook is the creativity involved. The author has taken every episode of the new series of Doctor Who up until Series 6. This seems like a fairly difficult challenge to pull off well but she manages to do it without cheating or coming up with generic Doctor Who recipes (ex: Tardis shaped cake). She combines creative recipe ideas with incredibly fun presentation…

WhatCulture! Review

This brand new book, written by Chris-Rachael Oseland is an up to date collection is an extremely comprehensive collection of recipes that goes through the revised series episode by episode with a mix of snacks, cocktails, desserts and main courses. There are over 90 recipes, one for each episode of the revived series and a bonus chapter of Fish Fingers and Custard alternatives, which is actually quite intuitive, if you want the street cred of saying you’ve tried it without actually sacrificing your dignity. As you can imagine there is something for everyone, something that the author has carefully considered as there is an appendix at the back of the book indicating what recipes are suitable for Veggies, Vegans and people with wheat allergies…

Geeky Hostess Review

You thought you were a Doctor Who fan? Check out Chris-Rachael Oseland. Her unauthorized Doctor Who cookbook, Dining With The Doctor, has a different recipe based on each episode of the first six seasons of the reboot (starting in 2005). The recipes vary from a cocktail served in an episode, to a cutesy snack in the form of a Dalek, all the way to full entrees. Your entire day’s meals could be Doctor Who-themed! It even has an entire 16-page chapter on various Fish Fingers and Custards. Another bonus: The cookbook includes US and UK-based measurements, so all Whovians can use it without trouble…

Technabob Review

If you read this site regularly, you know we’re fans of both Doctor Who and geeky foods. So when author Chris-Rachael Oseland tipped me off to her new Doctor Who fan cookbook, I had to crack open the cover to see what was inside….

The Independent’s 2012 Books of the Year: Drinks

…More accessible is Steamdrunks (CreateSpace, £6.49), Chris-Rachael Oseland’s entertaining collection of stomach-curdling, often milk-based Victorian cocktails from an age before vodka or refrigeration…

Steampunk Chronicle Review

Chris-Rachael Oseland obviously spent far more time than any one person has a right to researching not just the beverages of the Victorian age, but the process in which they were made and…interestingly enough…the reasons behind it all. Written with a sharp, jaded wit, Steamdrunks also contains a fair amount of history that was truly fascinating. There are more than a few reminders of how charming the time was with a healthy smattering of reality…

Gilded Monocle Review

I can honestly say that after reading the book I hope to one day sit down with Ms. Oseland and have some Regent’s Punch, some Wassail, or even a little Gunfire Tea if I’m adventurous enough. Then again, I may have already had the next best thing… The immediate strength of this book is the conversationalist tone. You feel like you’re sitting at the bar with a friend and finding out all about the best and oddest concoctions that the Victorians would have access to. It’s easy to tell that the author has an extensive knowledge of history and even though she feeds you a steady stream of information and ‘chewy’ tidbits throughout the book there’s no lecturing of facts and no info-dumping. It’s all good and all fun…
