Game of Thrones Week: Chase Your Dornish Spicy Eggplant Dip With A Martel Sunrise
Game of Thrones returns this Sunday, but your Kitchen Overlord won’t be back in her lair for another week. Therefore, this week’s recipes come to you courtesy of our minion Sarah Wright, who has created an entire Dornish meal for your enjoyment.

Dorne, home of house Martell, is in the southern most corner of Westeros. It provides many exotic products which are uncommon in the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, in particular, citrus fruits and Dorne’s own special wines. To begin your Dornish meal, start with both a Spicy Eggplant Dip appetizer and a Martel Sunrise to chase it with.
Spicy Eggplant Dip Appetizer
1 bag Greek style Flatbread (the poofy one in the pita section)
2 tbsp Olive Oil
2 cloves minced Garlic
1/2 tsp Chili Flakes
1 tsp Lemon Juice
salt and pepper
1 tbsp Parsley is optional but makes it a lovely green color
Something for your guests to nibble on while you get the barbecue going for the main course.
1. Peel and quarter the eggplant then roast under the broiler in the oven until it’s turned a little golden on the top.
2. Stick it and the rest of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and purée till smooth.
3. Serve with warm pita and olives if you like them.
P.S. For best results let the dip sit in the refrigerator overnight. It lets the flavors blend and get really delicious.
The Martell Sunrise
1 liter orange juice.
1 bottle barefoot Moscato or other sweet white or pink wine
1 pomegranate worth of seeds
2 oz grenadine
Dorne is famous for there fruity wines so here is the perfect Dornish cocktail. Also a good use for the orange juice that’s not in cake form.
1. Put the orange juice and wine into a container. If you don’t drink use sprite.
2. Freeze the pomegranate seeds
3. Pour in the Grenadine
4. Sprinkle the frozen pomegranate seeds in just before serving to keep the drink chilled.
