Hot Buttered Rum

1 gallon Rum
1 pound Light Brown Sugar
1/2 pound Unsalted Butter (two sticks)
3 tsp Vanilla
2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
2 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1/2 tsp Ground Allspice

If you’re honest with yourself you’ll start making a batch of cookies while you’re preparing your hot buttered rum. I’m warning you now – if you don’t make your own, you’ll find yourself drunkenly calling friends and begging them to bring you a brick of refrigerated cookie dough for the love of all that’s holy. Anyone raised in North America is incapable of smelling butter, vanilla and brown sugar without craving cookie dough. This is a scientifically proven fact.

So, now that you have your cookie dough going, it’s time to get on with the boozy goodness. Add your brown sugar, vanilla, and butter to a bowl and cream it (that’s blending it with a hand mixer for your non-cooks) until you have to fight the urge to add flour. Be strong. Instead, you’re going to add the cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. At this point, you can put the mix into an airtight container and store it for up to a month.

When you’re ready to serve, heat a teakettle full of water. Add 2 heaping tbsp of the butter batter and 2 shots of rum to a mug. Top it off with the boiling water and stir with a cinnamon stick. It’ll taste fantastic with your fresh, hot cookies.
