Welcome Kitchen Overlord’s newest minion, Sarah! Not to be confused with the S.A.R.A.H. made by Global Dynamics or Sarah Jane Smith in London or even Sarah Connor. Instead, we have procured one Sarah Wright, who you may notice has an exotic accent flavored with ample extra vowels. Go ahead. Guess where I found her.

For Sarah’s first recipe here in the lair, she’s decided to teach you all how to make your own super hero conversation hearts and speech bubbles. While she’s mostly chosen to use her culinary powers for good, I assure you she’s come up with a devilishly simple technique which you’re welcome to bend to your own nefairious purposes.

Super Hero Conversation Hearts

by Sarah Wright

The basic recipe is:

1/4 tsp unflavoured gelatine or 1 tsp jello
1 tbsp hot liquid
any food colouring or flavours
1-2 cups icing sugar

1. Put the jello in the bowl with any other flavours or colours that you are adding. Any jello, spice or extract will work or try plain gelatin with rose water, wine, pop or tea instead of regular water.
2. Add 1 tbsp boiling water and stir until all the gel has dissolved. This is important! If the gel isn’t totally mixed in you get speckled hearts with an uneven texture.
3. Add the icing sugar 1/4 cup at a time until it forms a dough (a lot like playdough)
4. Pick up the dough and knead it till its smooth
5. Roll the dough out to about 1/4-1/8 of an inch cut into shapes or just knead into shapes like playdough (smaller is better) and leave out to dry over night. In the morning flip them over and let the other side dry
6. Write on them. You can buy food colouring markers online or at some cake shops or just use food colouring and a paint brush. (Non toxic kids markers would probably also work but may taste different. I haven’t tried)
7. Store leftover dough in plastic wrap in an airtight container. It drys fast. If it gets to stiff to work with add a few drops more water and knead in.

Mini Cookie Cutters

1 plastic milk jug
scissors
hot glue

Cut long 1/2-1 inch thick strips out of the side of the milk container and fold, press and bend into the desired shape then hot glue the ends together. It may take a few tries to get it just right.

I made a POW box, a speech bubble and a heart. You can make anything you can both imagine and glue together properly.
