Nothing ever goes right in the town of Storybrook. One day, you’re a stern but loving mother, the next day your son’s biological mother shows up and reminds the entire town’s population that you’re an evil queen who trapped them in their own personal purgatories. What’s a mayor to do? If you’re Regina, you work a little kitchen magic to set everything right.
I’m not saying these tarts will eliminate all your problems, but they might just send your foes into a temporarily useful food coma. Bake at your own discretion.
Regina’s Poisonously Good Apple Tart
(From “Once Upon A Time”)
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
3 tbsp butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tsp cornstarch
3 tbsp water
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg
Preheat oven to 400F.
Melt the butter in a skillet.
Add the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice to the skillet.
Cook 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apples start to soften.
Mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Pour it in with the apples.
Add the brown sugar to the apples. Keep cooking 2-3 more minutes, until the brown sugar is melted.
Cut your puff pastry into six rectangles.
Spoon an equal amount of apple mix onto each rectangle.
Fold the pastry in half and pinch the edges closed.
Whisk the egg in a separate bowl. Paint the top of the pastries with the egg wash.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until puffy and golden brown.
Serve only to dwarves, handsome princes, or subjects. Stepdaughters are better off enjoying a big slice of chocolate cake.
